Meandering about town, well, mostly pretty much nearby.

As intricate as the streets are it’s nice when certain shops or plazas become familiar. But I wouldn’t say I could navigate on my own!

I finally found an excellent cheese shop. Spent 45 min? talking and tasting. What is it about rotten milk…

The European chain Carrefour has Express locations (say, like a better 7-11) and I found potato sticks! Memories…earliest days, 1960s, riding the NY subway there were vending machines on the platforms. Packed in a little paper box, cellophane-wrapped (real cellophane?) we’d buy potato sticks. I loved them. But here is a GIANT drum of them. Fried in sunflower oil, I’ve never eaten something fried in sunflower oil that tasted so distinctly (almost distractingly) of sunflower seeds! Caramelized sunflower seeds are commonly seen in shops. Almost ate the whole thing in 2 days…then, held off. But I have to finish before I go. I have to…

…and a few more meals.

The mercado in Málaga is nice, but no comparison to Barcelona’s, which is quite grand. These pears…they appear to be of wax or from a Flemish still life, have a delicate texture, thin skin but I don’t know their varietal name. I’ve eaten at the Turkish place twice (yes, I returned after the cerveza/no cerveza incident). Each time most of the other tables were Turkish families or workers (not just based on appearance, they spoke the same language as the server). First meal was kebab chicken over a saucy mix of barely seasoned yogurt and eggplant. Yum. Second, seasoned ground lamb kebabs. But the patatas fritas were the stand out! Delicate interior, as though they’d been boiled first, and a not super crunchy exterior which was - perfect! And, it may be hard to see the cut: they are V-shaped, which may have influenced how they cooked, etc.
